Taringa is an (award
winning) podcast hosted by Te Wānanga
o Aotearoa. It is hosted by Te reo expert Paraone Gloyne and a fun team of Te
reo teachers and learners (Te Puaheiri Snowden and others). It is released
fortnightly and now has over 300 episodes lasting around 50 minutes each. It
follows a rough format that may have a guest, discussion around a certain
topic, questions, and a whakataukī, waiata or grammar section. It is mainly aimed
at Intermediate or more advanced learners but there is certainly some real
learning in there for all levels.
I personally find the stories about individual iwi
history quite intriguing, as well as discussions around kawa (protocol) in a
modern context, plus the kupu, kupu, kupu sessions that look at certain
words, phrases, and dialectual differences. Audience questions are answered in Patapātai
epsodes and a wonderful guest is Jarrod Boon- MC Grammar.
Give Coronation Street the flick and tune your
taringas into this little gem! It may take you some time to paddle your waka
through 300+ past episodes but hopefully you will find something that will
interest you.
